Areas of Operation

Currently, Arcan has set its focus on 3 core regions that reside within Alberta and NE BC. Arcan’s production and drilling inventory are concentrated in McLeod (West Central Alberta), Deer Mountain (Swan Hills), and Hamburg (Northwest Alberta).

Arcan has typically elected to take a surgical approach of acquiring only the acreage that bears drilling opportunities. A large portion of the land holdings are blanketed with 3-D seismic, which has helped in identifying a drilling inventory of around 2 years. Specifically, two of Arcan’s main pools at Deer Mountain and Hamburg, both now under waterflood, have been largely delineated and provide Arcan with develpoment infill drilling opportunities. 

In 2008, Arcan purchased of a large land block to the south of its Deer Mountain Unit.  Arcan drilled its first well on the new lands in October, 2008 and has identified significant further development opportunities.  Arcan plans to follow up with a 3D seismic program to highlight further drilling and extend its production and injection facilities into its new land base to maximaize value on those assets.

While material growth is expected this year, Arcan will maintain its current weighting toward crude and NGLs. The waterfloods at Deer Mountain and Hamburg will continue to add reserves and extend our production life as the majority of our assets will be covered by enhanced recovery schemes.
